3 Ways I Maximize a Client’s Media Coverage

One of the most exhilarating yet tedious parts of my job as a publicist is the media relations component. Don’t get me wrong, its one of my favorite parts but the process can be so long and time consuming. That’s why when I land my client an interview or press hit; it’s time to take that coverage to the next level and maximize it.

Here are 3 ways I maximize a client’s media coverage:

Strategically flood the world wide web

Now that we have that one press hit (or several)! We must spread the word. The fastest way is through the brand's various social media channels. This includes Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, or whichever platform(s) you work with. Do not stop there; you can continue to spread the word by making a blog post (hello SEO), the brands newsletters, and the brands website.

Email It

Inform your clients network and your clients potential network. A press hit is too good not to share. For potential clients, keeping them informed on the latest positive coverage will keep the company on their radar. You’ll want to always be on a potential client’s radar. For existing clients and supporters, keeping them informed about any news is a win for the both parties, therefore they may be encouraged to share the coverage to friends and family, taking pride in working for the company, working with the client or just supporting the client.

Quote It

Using quotes from articles or segments in the clients collateral material including news releases, pitches, video releases, one-sheets, and product packaging can go along way! The difference between advertisement and public relations is that you didn’t pay for this win! Adding coverage to collateral could have several effects including a boost in sales or another journalist or blogger looking to cover the brand too.

Flooding my social sites as well as emailing potential and existing clients was key to an increase in my own business success after a feature in Black Enterprise. What do you do to maximize yours or your client’s success?
