The number one question I am often asked by aspiring Bloggers and Journalist is “Is it too late for me to start blogging for a living?” The short answer is no. Although the Internet is flooded with both active and abandoned blogs, people are always looking to discover something new and fresh. With a lot of hard work, dedication, and consistency anything is possible, here are three tips to position your career to blog for a living:

Tip #1: Be Cohesive.
Your reader needs to know what your blog is about to determine if they want to continue to frequent it. In order to be appealing to your reader you must be cohesive. Your blog name, url address, blog theme, photography choices (and size of  photos), social media handles and content all represents a solid cohesive brand.  Your blog should be easy for the reader to follow and understand no matter how light or complex your content may be.  Know your target reader and create something cohesive and user-friendly.

Tip #2:  Stay Consistent.
Consistency is key in everything you do! I feel like a broken record when I say this but it’s really true! When you are blogging for a living there are practically NO DAYS OFF!   The first thing you should do is determine the topics you would like to cover on your blog and create a content schedule. Your content schedule includes all photo shoots, graphics, and collaborations.  When you’re consistent with your content your audience will know what to look forward to and it will help keep you on track. The next thing you should do is determine the days and frequency of your blog posts. When you’re consistent with your schedule, your audience will know when to check back for new content. In addition, consistency could also contribute to the traffic your site will receive, to ensure you’re on track and potentially grasp the attention of advertisers as well as their ability to trust your blog.

Tip #3:  Be Creative.
We are in the world of digital media, therefore in order to reach your audience; you have to connect with your audience.  You can connect with your audience in different ways, through video, graphics, photos, lists, journal entries, and more. You could also connect with your audience through different platforms including social media, guest blog posts, strategic partnerships, and collaborations.  There’s no secret that people have different styles of learning so when you decide to blog for a living, you should consider finding creative ways to reach your audience.  Consider sponsored content, freelance work, consulting, social media marketing, selling related products, offering advertising, and affiliate marketing as other ways to earn money from your blog.
